This development in nanotechnology indicates that sometime in the future we could have gloves that "perform surgery by heat-induced local ablation, or even obtain ultrasound imagery of the tissue "at hand"."
I think the best hypothetical benefit would be the implications to non-invasive procedures. What do you think?
I bet this technology is closer to being a reality than most probably think. I had the great fortune to work with one of the pioneers of robot-assisted surgery, Dr. Howard "Hap" Paul. As an intern at the Sacramento Animal Medical Group where Dr. Paul worked as a surgeon, I scrubbed in on many "Robodoc" cases for Total Hip Replacement, and a limb sparing surgery for osteosarcoma - where a total knee replacement-type of surgery was performed - all performed with "Robodoc." It was an amazing experience - he was an amazing man and a true visionary and pioneer. You can read more here: http://www.robot.md/publications/robodoc-surgical-robot-sucess-story.pdf
