Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: Understanding Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis and Other Inflammatory Neurological Disorders of Dogs:
If dogs do not respond to prednisone/prednisolone, what other drugs can be used, how should they be combined, and what drug interactions and side-effects might there be?
Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology):
A second immunosuppressive agent will typically be added to the treatment protocol of dogs that are not responding to prednisone alone. All of the agents that were discussed can be used in combination with prednisone. The monitoring and potential side effects of each drug were briefly presented in the webinar during the discussion of MUE.
