My Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Rosco, relapsed one month after a six-month prednisone taper. Aside from prednisone, is there anything else we can give our dogs when we recognize they are relapsing? Please address treatment plan if patient relapses.

Additional immunosuppressive drugs can be used in dogs that are refractory to standard corticosteroid treatment, or that have intolerable adverse effects of treatment. Among secondary immunosuppressive drugs, azathioprine has been used most often in the treatment of SRMA. However, cyclosporine, cytosine arabinoside, leflunomide or mycophenylate can also be utilized.
