Use of Oclacitinib in Cats with Hypersensitivity Dermatitis

CE Event Information

  • Description:
Relief from pruritus associated with allergic skin disease can be challenging and may include the use of medicated shampoos, and antipruritic drug monotherapy or in combination with allergen-specific immunotherapy.

Oclacitinib is a Janus kinase inhibitor and is approved for use in dogs for managing pruritus and inflammation associated with allergic dermatitis. Until recently however, little was known about the effectiveness of the drug in cats with hypersensitivity dermatitis.

The subject of this week's Evidence Based Update is the use of oclacitinib in cats with nonflea-, nonfood-induced hypersensitivity dermatitis. Discussion includes:
    - Previous reports on the use of oclacitinib in cats
    - Effectiveness of oclacitinib in treating pruritus in cats with hypersensitivity dermatitis
    - Tolerability of oclacitinib in cats

    Running time:  10 mins
