Calcium oxalate stones are common in dogs. To date, various risk factors have been suggested or identified, however breed-specific risk factors have not been studied.
In this Evidence Based Update, recently published data, regarding the correlation of blood ionized calcium levels and urinary metabolites - calcium and oxalate - and the stone status of Miniature Schnauzers, Bichons Frise, and Shih Tzus, is discussed.
