Caring for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in the Dog - Session III: Understanding proteinuria and CKD and how this changes the diagnostic or treatment approach

CE Event Information

  • Description:
In the prior two sessions of this 4 part series, there was some brief discussion of urine protein as one of the parameters we test for in canine patients with CKD and how that information is incorporated into clinical staging and treatment plans. In this session we will explore this further to discuss why evaluation of urine protein is such an important element of the diagnostic plan and how it may impact disease progression. We will also look at some of the more advanced options for diagnostic testing of patients with increased urine protein that might lead to specific treatment protocols. Finally, we will review some of the ways in which the treatment for proteinuria may align with, or conversely have to be balanced against, the other options for treating CKD in dogs. Discussion will include:
    - Defining proteinuria in patients with CKD
    - Advanced testing for proteinuria and when it is indicated
    - Treatment and management of proteinuria

Running time: 1 hr 30 mins
