Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: What’s Feeding Those Seizures? An Update On Refractory Canine Epilepsy And The Potential Link to Gastrointestinal Health:
Can dogs be allergic to foods and can that cause seizures?
Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology)
Dog can be allergic to foods. This usually manifests as gastrointestinal signs (vomiting, diarrhea) or dermatologic signs (itchiness). There are a few unsubstantiated reports of food allergies causing seizures in dogs, but more study is needed to determine whether or not a true association exists.
