Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: What’s Feeding Those Seizures? An Update On Refractory Canine Epilepsy And The Potential Link to Gastrointestinal Health:
Levetiracetam increased my dog's seizures. Is that possible?
Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology)
There are reports of humans experiencing an increase in seizure frequency while being treated with levetiracetam, but these were not controlled studies so it is not possible to say with certainty that a causal association exists. Other factors can influence seizure frequency over a period of time, and fluctuations in seizure frequency can just be a reflection of the natural waxing and waning course of disease.
