Dr. Christensen referenced this video during her presentation on "Fear of the Veterinary Clinic and Veterinary Procedures" - specifically relating to how veterinary professionals can manage the environment and the waiting room.
I hope you guys like this video showing active waiting room management.
How many of us empower our client care coordinators and receptionist to REALLY manage the waiting room? Not many!
How irritating that must be for them? They have to see animals and people making each other more agitated and don't have a plan on how to fix it. NOT COOL!
The good new is: There are lots of simple, efficient ways to manage the waiting room. Without managing this stressful environment appropriately, you are setting your team and your patient up to fail. And that could be an EPIC fail for that patient. Don't forget - When you really scare an animal and then send them home, that patient's other behaviors may decompensate. I've even known animals who ended up getting euthanized directly due to this scenario.
Behavior problems kill pets. They make your clients unhappy. They reduce the number of clients veterinary hospitals can keep. They make us all sad when they don't get better. It's really a no-brainer. GO TEAM!!!
