Question submitted during Session II of The Canine Epilepsy Summit:
"My dog was recently put on Pregabalin for seizures (in addition to her other meds). Has this medication been effective in controlling or reducing epileptic seizures?"
- Answer provided by our Session II Panelist:
This is a medication that is very newly generically available and thus more afforable as an option. There is at least one study in dogs showing pregabalin's use for seizures. I have personally used this medication for patients where we are looking to help decrease seizures and pain in a patient with one medication. Though, this medication is typically used in addition to another anticonvsulsant medication.
