Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: Understanding Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis and Other Inflammatory Neurological Disorders of Dogs:
Regarding treatment and long-term management of steroid responsive meningitis arteritis ... what is the best way to wean a dog off Prednisone? How long should dogs stay on Prednisone before tapering begins? Is there an accepted tapering protocol?
Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology):
There is no gold standard for tapering of corticosteroids during treatment of SRMA. Most commonly, the dose is slowly decreased every 4-6 weeks.
