Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: Understanding Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis and Other Inflammatory Neurological Disorders of Dogs:
Is there any bibliographic reference or any personal experience with other treatments like citarabine, azothiaprine, cyclosporine,...? Thank you very much!
Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology):
To date, there are no published studies evaluating the use of other immunosuppressive agents in dogs with SRMA. The use of these drugs is based on anecdotal evidence and personal experience. The use of azathioprine is briefly discussed in the following publication: Tipold A, Schatzberg S. An update on steroid responsive meningitis-arteritis. Journal of Small Animal Practice 2010; 51:15-154.
